Can I Put Too Much Oil in My Car?

There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. Motor oil is a prime example; you can have too much oil in your vehicle. If your car has too much oil, it means the old oil wasn't drained while topping off or you added too much after drainage.

How can I tell if my car has too much oil?

Some signs to look out for are:

  1. Exhaust smoke, especially blue smoke

  2. A burning smell

  3. An oil leak

  4. Check engine light

  5. The engine doesn't run as well

If your vehicle does not have a dipstick, or you have trouble finding it, bring it to your local auto repair shop.

How can I fix it?

We recommend a complete drain and refill with the proper amount of oil.
